From the artist: This piece is from a collection titled “Crystal Mythologies”. It is one of twelve that represent a more contemporary take on different Greek goddesses and gods. I have reimagined them with differing features to allow for a more open understanding of their characters. Aphrodite for instance, known for love and beauty, is depicted with piercings and peace while I gave Hercules more femininity to his rugged strength, and Demeter is focused on the detail in nature. I used black ink and canvas sheets to draw out each character with watercolor for the crystallization and acrylic paint on canvas as a backdrop with a pour of contrasting vibrant colors.
