“Sustain” – Charlie Brouwer

Black locust wood, deck screws, preservative stain
7′ x 6′ x 4′

From the Artist:

The figure’s pose for Sustain is inspired by the mythical Atlas – holding the weight of the world on his shoulders. Instead of the world I gave him an oversized leaf. Leaves are personal symbols that frequently appear in my work, but they are also universal symbols for the natural world. A sculpture like this seems appropriate for a park and greenway and for a world that is struggling with environmental and climate issues. Sustain doesn’t offer answers, but it does suggest some questions concerning our relationship with nature.
